About the Braemar Chocolate Shop
Our journey to beautiful Braemar...
Little did we know that when we made some locally inspired chocolate for a food fair – to promote a local gin – that life would take a turn in a new and completely unexpected direction. We created a Seaweed Chocolate to accompany the gin, using Shetland Seaweed as its Botanical. Since then we opened two shops – in Shetland and Orkney.
In 2020 we took the difficult decision to leave the islands we loved so much, moving to the mainland to be closer to our families. Passing through Braemar we spotted a gorgeous shop for sale, and our new destination was decided! Despite the difficulties of 2020 we were still lucky enough to move and are now settled into our new life in this glorious village at the heart of the Cairngorms National Park.
We handmake all our chocolates in our tiny shop, inspired by the beautiful landscapes that surround us. We carefully pair selected chocolate from all over the world with classic flavours, then add a unique Scottish twist with the wonderful food and ingredients on our doorstep. Using ingredients as diverse whisky, bread and cheese (yes cheese) we hope to show people how amazing Scottish food and drink is… aiming to offer a taste of Scotland in chocolate.
We work with some incredible produce and we want you to have to sample it too. A lot is made by small-scale producers like us, so we've included links so you can support them too!
After a career as an army Masterchef, Dave wanted to live somewhere amazing and do something he loved. After a short spell in management roles he returned to his first love… Food… and chocolate!
Having started in Shetland, Cathy joined the business there, bringing decades of experience in marketing and communications roles, and a lifelong passion for food.
As well as developing the business together, we also managed the simplest, most gorgeous 'Zoom' wedding in the madness of winter lockdown 2020.
We feel so fortunate to have been able to move to another stunning part of Scotland – beautiful and historic Braemar – and we’d love to welcome you both online, and in person to our little shop.
