How the Collaboration Came About

Making chocolates for Paul Smith Loves Barbour

Paul Smith came to Braemar in May, scouting small, local businesses to take part in "Paul Smith Loves Barbour," a project bringing together British craft and character, also featuring Hugh Bonneville and a run of films across Paul Smith's own channels. What drew them to us was straightforward: a shop that's proudly Scottish, chocolates made entirely by hand, and the kind of in-person experience where every box is chosen, tied and tagged right in front of the customer. During that first visit, Dave walked them through how the chocolates are coloured, and that conversation is where the whole idea started.

Paul Smith gave us two of their tartan variants to work from: the Paul Smith Classic Tartan and a softer Paul Smith Muted Tartan, the same Barbour tartan with a flash of pink running through it. From there, Dave set about translating both into chocolate: square pieces carrying the muted tartan's colours, and dome-shaped chocolates in the classic tartan's purples, blues and olive greens. Each one was made in vegan raspberry and Ben Romac organic whisky, two flavours chosen to sit comfortably alongside each other while still feeling distinct.

From guest rooms to the royal box

The Gathering and Beyond

The finished chocolates were used as gifts in guest rooms and at Paul Smith's stall during the Gathering itself, a fitting home for a collaboration built around Highland tradition. Dave's own part in the day added something extra: marching as a Duff Highlander, calling "eyes right" as they marched past King Charles in the royal box, a moment that later appeared in one of Paul Smith's own promotional films. It's rare for a chocolate collaboration to end up woven into a moment like that, and it's become one of our proudest projects to date.

Every Kind of Corporate Order

No two corporate orders look quite the same.

Some clients come back every Christmas without fail. Boscalis, an offshore services company, has ordered from us for three to four years running, and this year they're back with another bespoke Christmas order for their team.

Others bring us something more unusual. One corporate client wanted a truffle built entirely around their own spirit, so we developed a bespoke flavour to match, paired with a single-origin chocolate and finished exactly to their brief. Give us a flavour, a story, or even a bottle, and we'll build a chocolate around it.

And for businesses who simply need volume, we produce large batches of chocolate boxes for staff gifting, client mailings or event giveaways, all handmade, all finished to the same standard as a single box.
